![]() Supplies: 3/8 wood cube from Michaels or Hobby
Lobby (or email Luci
for them) Base of Chair: The small wood cube is the base of the chair. Cut a strip of fabric 1-1/2 X ½ to cover the wood cube base. Starting in the center of one side of cube, glue one long edge of fabric flush with the bottom, wrapping around the entire cube, gluing as you go. On the seat end you will have some fabric extending over cube. This end is the chair seat. Clip a V at each corner of the extending fabric and glue down on the seat. You want this as flat as possible so that the height of the chair is not increased. The covered end is the seat and the other end (the uncovered end) is the bottom of the chair. Back of Chair Cut a piece of cardstock 2 X 3/8. Fold this in the center making sure this is a sharp fold. I use small pliers for this. Cut a strip of fabric 2 X 5/8to cover this cardstock. Unfold the back and glue the fabric to it so that there is fabric seam allowance on both long sides. Glue the seam allowance around the cardstock. Refold the back and glue together. Let this dry. Then using small pliers roll the folded end under. This will make the rolled back. Now glue the back to the base on the side where the seam is. After this has dried, bend the back section back just slightly. This will give the back a slanted and more comfortable look. This step makes the chair look more natural. Seat of Chair Cut out a 3/8 X 3/8 square of cardstock for seat cushion. Lay this in a square of fabric slightly larger than card. There should be a little fabric extending all around the card (about 1/8 is more than plenty). Cut Vs in the corner of the overhanging fabric and glue this tightly to the underside of the card. Be sure this is a neat, flat cushion because you do not want to increase the height of the chair. Glue this cushion to the top of the chair base. Optional Trim seams with very fine gold braid or gold Bunka pulled thin.
