| Abbreviations | You will often see abbreviations being used on the group and in chat. People will often use dh or DH which stand for dear husband and DollHouse, but good luck deciding which they are referring to just on the abbreviation alone. Read the rest of the posting to figure out which they are referring to. Other popular abbreviations are LOL (Laugh Out Loud) and ROTFLOL (Rolling On The Floor Laughing Out Loud). To read about other abbreviations, go to http://uscash.net/tips/chat.html |

Members donate items that other members can bid on. Bidding takes place in a chat room and is coordinated by the volunteer in charge of the auction. To attend an auction, you must request to be a bidder and be given access to the chat room. Donators get 50% of the winning bid and cover shipping of the item to the winner. The other 50% is used to help defray convention and group costs.

The banquet and other meals are completely calorie free. No weight will be ever gained from attending these functions. Salivating and hunger will, however, be something that could happen. The meals will be accompanied by recipes which, if used will bring along all the calories you were denied online.

Online communication like email, but instant and continuous. Quarter Connection has a few chat pages - a social one, a workshop one and a private one. You will need to log into the chat rooms. Centerpieces are miniature scenes based on the theme of the convention. They are placed on the tables for the attendees to look at during the convention. At the end of the convention, one lucky winner at each table will win one of these wonderful pieces of art.
|
|
The centerpieces are made by volunteers with a container supplied by Luci Hanson. This year Luci will ship a special Acrylic box for the volunteers to create their centerpiece from their own supplies and imagination and general guidelines that come with the box. The centerpiece will need to fit in the box and within the theme of the convention. "Kids and Kritters" The volunteers will provide all the items to finish the scene and the shipping to QC central. If you would like to give a free seminar showing how you made your scene, you might want to take pictures during the creation process. Those who make the centerpieces are invited to give a mini project workshop on your creation after the convention. |

Shipping for totes, totebags, centerpieces, and door prizes all come to more than we pay in convention fees. Group members also receive Quarter Connection buttons to wear at real-life conventions and shows. We also have prizes for events on the group and sometimes during the convention. All these, and other wonderful items that the group provides cost money. Auctions, raffles, garage sales, classifieds other fund raisers allow us to keep the convention registration costs down and cover costs of other programs....some are free to our members. |

The databases are located on the Quarter Connection Yahoo group page. You will have to go to Yahoo groups and log in with your name and password to get to this page. There is a link to the Yahoo group at the bottom of every digest.
If you make an error, contact the people in charge of the database so that they can fix your entry. So, please be careful when entering the data. Before registration opens for the convention, there will be a test database so that you can try out entering data into a database. |
|
| Door Prizes |
Door prizes for Quarter Connection are a combination of a swap and donation. If you want to just receive one door prize, you send one door prize. The same goes for two door prizes. However, if you want to share the fun with other attendees, you may donate a third door prize (or more) to be given away to other attendees as a prize.

Exchanges are swaps. That is what we call the swap at the table during a convention. For that exchange, you need one larger finished miniature item with a value around $10 and nine (or one for each of the other table mates) with a value around $5. As with any swap, think more about whether you would be happy with the gift rather than of a specific value. The exchange gifts are to be mailed to your table hostess along with a check for $4.65 to cover the cost of sending you the exchange gifts that were provided by your other table mates.. Exchanges are sometimes set up for kits or other items that are just exchanged one person to another. |

During the slow months of the year there are free projects offered on our website. The projects usually consist of items that most minaturists have in supply. The instructions are posted on the website for about a month. Centerpiece artisans often offer their instructions for making a replica of their creation as a free project. |

Members donate items that other members can purchase. Email the volunteer in charge of the garage to purchase the item.It is suggested you watch the garage sale constantly and email right away as items go quite quickly. Donators get 50% of the winning bid and cover shipping of the item to the winner. The other 50% is used to help defray convention and group costs. |

Much like the real-life N.A.M.E. conventions, but it takes place on the internet. The advantages of an online convention are:
You do, however, get many of the same wonderful experiences you would by attending a convention in real-life. Just like a real convention, you can choose how much or how little you want to take part. The most fun is definitely attained by taking part with as much as possible, however. You can make new friends, learn new techniques, and get lots of wonderful goodies by joining in with the various aspects of the convention. |

Souvenirs are gifts created especially for our convention by selected member artisans to commemorate the convention. They are available only to those who are registered to receive the tote bags and surprise gifts. If there are some left over they will be sold to the other membes. Convention fees are used to purchase and ship these gifts to the attendees. Since the fees are also to cover tote bags, and shipping of other items, many of the other functions help defray these costs. |
|
|

The souvenir book is a place to advertise your business, put a memoriam for someone, or post something that is special to you.

Exactly what they sound like. Supplies are the materials you use to make your own miniatures from scratch. If you have any supplies for sale, contact Luci Hanson so that she can post them on the Supplies web page.

The tables are all virtual - in other words, they take place online.
The friendships you make from sitting at a table with other members, however are very real. You can get to know people from other places around the world and create lasting friendships. Sitting at a table is the only way to win a centerpiece or door prize, too. |
|
|
|
The table host/hostess is in charge of a table of usually 10 people. Some tables, will be Exchange tables and will require that you take part in swapping gifts (see Exchanges in the Glossary). A table host/hostess will start the table mates talking to each other, will ask for photos for the pajama party, and will make sure that you know your seat number. The table host/hostesses may choose to do additional fun things at their table like projects, hostess gifts, attend virtual functions together or hold chats.
|
|
Themed luncheon is a "talk" about a technique or thoughts about some aspect of miniatures. In real life, you would sit at a table with other attendees, eat the meal provided, hear the speaker in person, and pay money for this process. Online, you will be sent to a web page with the themed luncheon information and can attend at your leisure with no weight gain or expense. |

Also known as totebag favors, or favors. Finished miniature items of around a $5 (US) value. It is nice if these fit the theme of the convention, but it is not a requirement. Items are sent in to QC Central where volunteers
sort them into sandwich-sized bags and send them back out to
those who sent tote bag favors. Definitely a fun part of the
online convention. |
